Olga S.
I come from a family where my grandparents were the pillars of care and support for both me and my sister. Thanks to them, I developed a very close emotional bond with them and, as I grew older, became not only their granddaughter but also their helper and caregiver.
In their later years, I gained extensive experience providing continuous care for my 90-year-old grandfather, my grandmother in the terminal stage of cancer, and my great-aunt who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. My love for older people and my desire to help them stem directly from my family background and have naturally extended into my everyday life. This has included assisting my elderly neighbours with tasks such as window cleaning, sharing a cup of coffee and conversation, and supporting seniors through my work at the library.
While working at the library, I established regular senior gatherings in cooperation with the non-profit organization providing free-time activities for elderly people. Approximately 60% of the library's readers were retirees, so I interacted with older adults on an almost daily basis. Often, these interactions were less about books and more about human connection, conversation, and helping them navigate library systems and digital services.
Through our biweekly senior meetings at the library, we gradually built a community of older adults who helped organise travel lectures, card games, and other activities. New friendships were formed, and as a librarian, I was able to offer a listening ear and provide companionship that helped ease, even if only temporarily, the loneliness that many seniors experience.
After leaving the library, I would like to continue helping wherever I am needed—whether through grocery shopping, companionship, household assistance, or support with digital literacy, which was also one of the courses we organized at the library.
Professionally, I am a historian and documentary filmmaker, but I enjoy combining my career with volunteer work and meaningful activities that make a positive difference in people's lives. I have a broad range of interests and knowledge, which allows me to accompany seniors to exhibitions, museums, or the theatre, discuss family photo albums and personal histories, or simply help with household chores while enjoying a conversation together.
I am also comfortable assisting with personal hygiene and basic personal care, although I am not a professional caregiver by training.
If you are looking for someone to support your loved ones with kindness, empathy, and a genuinely human approach—someone who does not necessarily have a nursing background but is dedicated to helping others—please do not hesitate to contact me.
My goal is to offer seniors the same things that my grandparents gave me throughout my childhood: joy, understanding, companionship, and love.
